Project Manager – Inland water integrated assessments (A*6, A*7)


Purpose of post:


To develop policy relevant integrated environmental assessments on water resources (quality and quantity). Communication of the information to policy makers.

Functions and duties:


  • Lead, initiate, design, and manage, sometimes in cooperation with other bodies, the production of integrated assessments, indicators and briefings, taking account of the various pressures on water resources (inland, coastal and marine waters) and of policy responses;
  • Develop policy relevant information to support the implementation and evaluation of the water framework directive, the marine strategy and other legislation and policies on water, including sustainable consumption of natural resources;
  • Communicate actively the results to those involved in the policy process in the Commission, European Parliament, member countries and NGOs;
  • Follow European policy developments in the area, in particular within the EU;
  • Contribute to assessment, sectoral integration reports and briefings of the EEA;
  • Maintain relations with the European Commission, member countries and international organisations on issues related to the aquatic environment;
  • Manage the available resources and the agreements with ETC/Water; and
  • Lead relevant EEA projects.

Eligibility


  • Education certificates and diplomas:
    • Relevant university degree attested by a diploma
  • Range of professional experience and skills:
    • A minimum of four years of relevant working experience for the grade A*6 and seven years for the grade A*7;
    • Good networking, interpersonal, communication and presentation skills; proven skills in communicating with policy-making organizations and in communicating scientific knowledge to other audiences;
    • Practical experience in integrated assessment of environmental issues;
    • A good knowledge of European water policy and related policies;
    • A good knowledge of available quantitative information on the aquatic environment;
    • Proven experience in working with a broad range of experts with specific expertise in sectors or environmental issues in the context of integrated environmental assessments;



GENERAL CONDITIONS:

Candidates applying must satisfy the following general requirements on the closing date for the submission of applications:

  • Be a national of one of the Member Countries of the EEA (Member States of the European Union plus Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, Bulgaria, Romania, and Turkey);
  • Enjoy full rights as a citizen;
  • Have fulfilled any obligations imposed by law concerning military service;
  • Meet the educational requirements as described under "Eligibility: Education certificates and diplomas";
  • Meet the character requirements for the duties involved;
  • Have a thorough knowledge of one of the languages of the EEA Member Countries and a satisfactory knowledge of a second of these languages. Good knowledge of English would be an asset.

Selection:

The procedure comprises a pre-selection of the best qualified candidates based on the eligibility criteria in relation to the post to be filled. Pre-selected candidates will be called for an interview. The interview will be held for the most part in English.

Request for review:

Candidates who have not been admitted to the selection procedure will be notified by letter. The candidate may ask to have his/her application reconsidered by sending a request for review to the Chairman of the Selection Committee at the address indicated above within 21 calendar days from the date of the letter of notification.

Recruitment:

The selected candidate shall before recruitment undergo a compulsory medical examination to establish that he/she meets the standard of physical fitness necessary to perform the duties involved.
