Each year, the European Environment Agency (EEA) welcomes several trainees through the European Commission’s Blue Book Traineeship programme.
As a trainee at the EEA, you gain hands-on experience by participating in the daily operations of the agency. Trainees come from various academic backgrounds, Member States, and experience levels, and work with teams throughout the agency.

Insightful, inspiring, and international. The traineeship at the EEA was an outstanding opportunity for me to gain insights into the EU's role as a global policy making actor, through working at the interface between scientific knowledge and environmental policy and supporting the research framework for the publication of the 'State and Outlook of the Environment' report of 2025.
Sustainable Transitions (STR)
I have truly enjoyed my EEA traineeship, working at EEA’s Brussels liaison office. I have particularly enjoyed learning more about EU environmental legislation and the EU legislative process and also gaining a deeper understanding of the EEA’s vast environmental expertise.
Coordination, Networks and Strategy (CNS)
My experience as a Blue Book Trainee at the EEA has allowed me to gain valuable insights into the role of research in EU environmental policy making. I gained hands-on, practical experience, learned a lot about the communication of scientific knowledge, and had the opportunity to work in an amazing and diverse team!
