The European Environment Agency (EEA) is a dynamic and engaging workplace in the heart of Copenhagen, empowering our employees to thrive and ensuring that their well-being is supported.

What we offer

Continuous learning and development

We aspire to continuously develop a strong, evolving organisation. This means that we emphasise a supportive environment, where learning by doing is part of everyday work. We also support and train our leaders to lead in ways that reinforce learning.

As a staff member of the EEA, you will have opportunities to learn and grow as part of your job. You will also be able to attend training that will support your learning and development journey.

Health and well-being

EEA employees are covered by a Joint Sickness and Insurance Scheme (JSIS) provided by the European Commission. The agency further offers in-house activities that include fitness classes, canteen services, and more.

Our Onboarding Buddy Network also helps new colleagues feel at home at the EEA and in Copenhagen.

Remuneration and allowances

We offer competitive salaries that include allowances (e.g. family and travel allowances). Employees also have advancement opportunities. Find out more about employment conditions.

Diversity and inclusion

Our employees come from diverse backgrounds and academic disciplines. We support equal treatment that is free of discrimination on the grounds of sex, race, colour, ethnic or social original, genetic features, language, religion, political or any other opinion, membership of a national minority, property, birth, disability, age or sexual orientation.

Work-life balance

Our flexible and core working hours and remote work arrangements help employees thrive at work and at home.

Social engagements

Throughout the year we have several events, including holiday parties, happy hours, and other activities.

How do we try to improve and be our best?

These five fundamental principles guide all EEA’s activities:

  • Strive for efficiency: We build on previous experience and continuously challenge ourselves to explore emerging issues and tools within our areas of expertise.

  • Lead by example: We put words into action by implementing environmental recommendations throughout the agency. We are EMAS-certified and follow ambitious environmental commitments aimed at climate neutrality.

  • Act independently: We are a non-partisan organisation that acts independently and relies on trustworthy sources for data collection and knowledge.

  • Embrace innovation: We embrace the use of innovative digital technologies and data applications to enable better data access and reduce our environmental footprint.

  • Motivate and empower: We invest in our staff and foster professional growth. We offer a safe, professional environment to encourage better practices that make our work more productive and innovative.

Our offices

Our offices are situated in Kongens Nytorv in central Copenhagen. Although the building itself is over 100 years old, it provides modern and well-equipped offices for our 270+ employees. The EEA building is easily accessible by metro, bus and train. Services, facilities, shops and restaurants are also within walking distance.

Living in Copenhagen

A regular fixture of quality-of-life surveys, Copenhagen is one of the world’s most liveable cities, with abundant parks and green spaces, restaurants, bars, galleries, and family-friendly attractions. Copenhagen offers transport connections by metro, bus and train, but most choose a bicycle to get around. It is estimated that commuters in Copenhagen cycle a combined 1.44 million kilometres daily.
