The EEA brings together scientific knowledge and expertise, with the aim of providing vital analysis and data to help develop, implement and evaluate a large number of European policies and legislation, with a particular focus on the European Green Deal. Our policy corner links a selection of EU policies we support with relevant EEA knowledge.

European Green Deal: the main focus of our policy support work

The European Green Deal, together with the 8th Environment Action Programme, lies at the heart of the EU's sustainability packages and policy measures. All our assessments and data aim to provide support to help monitor progress, ensure better implementation and improve policymaking processes, which underpin the delivery of the goals set in the European Green Deal.

The EU 8th Environment Action Programme

The EU 8th Environment Action Programme (EAP) builds on the European Green Deal and sets the framework for EU environmental policy until 2030. The EEA takes stock annually of progress towards the 8th EAP objectives on the basis of a set of 28 headline indicators and corresponding targets. These were selected by the European Commission after consultation with stakeholders, EU Member States and the EEA, and they represent key aspects of the 8th EAP. They were outlined in the European Commission Communication on the 8th EAP monitoring framework
