Conservation status of habitat types and species: datasets from Article 17, Habitats Directive 92/43/EEC reporting

Data
Prod-ID: DAT-15-en
Created 19 Oct 2020 Published 19 Oct 2020 Last modified 19 Oct 2020
70 min read
All Member States are requested by the Habitats Directive to monitor habitat types and species listed in its annexes and send a report every 6 years following an agreed format. The assessment of conservation status is based on information about the status and trends of species populations and of habitats at the level of the biogeographical or marine region.

European data

Article 17 - 2020 dataset

The dataset contains tabular data as reported by Member States for the period 2013-2018; this includes habitat areas, population sizes, trends, pressures and threats, and conservation status at the national biogeographical level. In addition, it includes conservation status and trends in conservation status at the EU biogeographical level as assessed by the EEA and its ETC on Biological Diversity.

In addition, it includes conservation status and trends in conservation status at the EU biogeographical level as assessed by the EEA and its ETC on Biological Diversity. Files downloaded prior to 4th of September 2015 do not include text fields with information from the general report, which are now added to the 2015 version of the database.

GIS data

Article 17 - 2020 spatial data

The data sets are divided in two sets for species and two sets for habitat types. The sets are aggregated by code, country and region. Using this attribute the conservation status per Member State (MS) biogeographical region or the conservation status at EU-28 (EU) biogeographical region level (EU) can be joined to the spatial dataset.

Article 17 - 2015 spatial data

The data sets are divided in two sets for species and two sets for habitat types. The sets are aggregated by code, country and region. Using this attribute the conservation status per Member State (MS) biogeographical region or the conservation status at EU-27 (EU) biogeographical region level (EU) can be joined to the spatial dataset. NOTE: The conservation status values for Greece (from 2007 as there was no Greek delivery of Art 17 data in 2013) are missing for the majority of the habitat types. A corrected version will be provided at a later stage. The correct information will become available in the Conservation status fact sheets. The information can be accessed directly in the dataset from the 2001-2006 reporting round, the previous version of this dataset.
