The European Environment Agency is organising a selection procedure with a view to filling the following vacancy:


Reference no. EEA/A/2002/12 – Project Manager – Transport and Environment - Temporary Agent (A7/A6)


Job description:

Management of transport/environment related activities, in particular further development and coordination of the transport and environment reporting mechanism, contributions to main EEA reports and networking with relevant organisations. Contribution to broader sectoral and socio-economic activities within the work programme.

Tasks:

Following European policy developments and developing the transport and environment project strategy within the EEA (Multi) Annual Work Programme.

Management of the Transport and Environment Reporting Mechanism (TERM)

  • Overseeing data exchanges with Eurostat and other data providers;
  • Coordination of and contribution to TERM outputs, i.e. indicator fact sheets, country fact sheets, indicator-based reports, focus reports, technical reports, TERM workshops;
  • External contacts and support to dedicated networks;
  • Follow-up of transport research.

Contribution to main EEA assessments and reports

  • Development of transport chapters;
  • Contribution to the development of scenarios and prospective analysis for the transport sector (and preferably broader contribution across several sectors);
  • Participation in relevant ETC teams and other teams.

Organisation and management

  • Calls for tender;
  • Contract and resource management;
  • Contribution to work programme planning and progress reports;
  • Assistance to Programme Manager on coordination of EEA sectors and environment group.

Qualifications and experience:

  • A university degree relevant to the field concerned;
  • A minimum of three years of professional experience in transport and environment analyses;
  • A good knowledge of European transport and environment policies and data;
  • Proven experience in working with a broad range of experts with specific expertise on transport and across other sectors and environmental issues;
  • Sound ability in communicating with policy-making organizations.

Eligibility:

Candidates applying must satisfy the following general requirements on the closing date for the submission of applications:

  • Be a national of one of the Member Countries of the EEA (Member States of the European Union plus Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania, Slovak Republic, Slovenia, Cyprus, Malta, and Turkey). The recruitment of nationals from new membership countries will be subject to prior ratification of the EEA membership agreement;
  • Meet the educational requirements as described under "Qualifications and experience";
  • Enjoy full rights as a citizen;
  • Have fulfilled any obligations imposed by law concerning military service;
  • Meet the character requirements for the duties involved;
  • Have a thorough knowledge of one of the languages of the EEA Member Countries languages and a satisfactory knowledge of a second of these languages. Good knowledge of English would be an asset.
