The map: Locating biomes (or regional ecosystems) throughout the world. The graph: The bars compare the impacted states of selected biomes (or regional ecosystems) at various historical dates and projected 2050. These impacts are expressed using the Mean species abundance (MSA) indicator.

Additional information

This map and graph covers the world. The temporal coverage also covers 1700.

For the graph: Mean species abundance (MSA) is an indicator of biodiversity. Combining the extent of ecosystems and abundance of selected species, it reflects the state of impacted ecosystems, compared with their pristine, unimpacted state. As such it indicates how natural an ecosystem is.
