The map shows all European aiports with more than 1 million of passengers per year (2013) (a) the number of carried passengers and (b) the relative difference of air passengers between 2009 and 2013. The size of circles represents the number of carried passengers, while the colour of the circle indicates whether ther was high/low decrease or increase of passengers numbers between 2009 and 2013.

Metadata

Methodology:: Data on carried air passenger per airport are taken from the Eurostat table [avia_paoa] and gap filled with data from the Eurostat table [avia_tf_apal] in order to get a complete picture of the passenger numbers in Europe. Carried air passengers are taken since takes into account all passengers on a particular flight (with one flight number) that are counted once only and not repeatedly on each individual stage of that flight. All revenue and non-revenue passengers are considered whose journey begins or terminates at the reporting airport and transfer passengers joining or leaving the flight at the reporting airport. It excludes direct transit passengers.
