Reference no. EEA/CA/2005/10 – Project officer - Data operator – Contract agent (FG III)

Purpose of post:

The primary area of work of the contract agent will be to support collection, processing and dissemination of environmental data in EEA and Eionet. The individual tasks cover the practical handling of data sets (import, export, conversion, database queries, version control, etc.) as well as contributions to the EEA's data quality reporting. A further task is to support data collection from countries through Reportnet, Eionet's data reporting system.

Functions and duties:

• Monitoring of and technical support for the reporting of environmental data through Reportnet
• Quality assurance of incoming data, update of related datasets, applications and documentation in EEA data service
• Contributions to EEA's data quality reporting, e.g. the systematic documentation of data quality assurance procedures
• Provide end-user support for functionalities and content of the EEA data service

Eligibility:

Education certificates and diplomas:

• Post secondary education attested by a diploma or a level of secondary education attested by a diploma giving access to post-secondary education, and appropriate professional experience of at least three years.

Range of professional experience and skills:

• Minimum 3 years professional experience in managing data in an SQL server database environment
• A strong technical background and proven experience in using software tools for data management and analysis
• Good networking, interpersonal and communication skills
• Structural approach to planning and good at problem solving
• A good knowledge of environmental issues would be asset

• Citizenship of one of the member countries of the European Environment Agency (Member States of the European Union plus Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, Bulgaria, Romania and Turkey);
• Enjoy full rights as a citizen;
• Have fulfilled any obligation imposed by law concerning military service;
• Meet the educational requirements as described under "Eligibility".
• Have a thorough knowledge of one of the languages of the EEA Member Countries and a satisfactory knowledge of a second of these languages. Good knowledge of English would be an asset;

Selection:

The procedure comprises a pre-selection of the best qualified candidates based on the eligibility criteria in relation to the post to be filled. Pre-selected candidates will be called for an interview. The interview will be held for the most part in English.

Recruitment:

The selected candidates shall before recruitment undergo a compulsory medical examination to establish that they meet the standard of physical fitness necessary to perform the duties involved. The selected candidate will be employed for a limited time period not exceeding four years.
