Marine LitterWatch

A citizen science based app that aims to help fill data gaps in beach litter monitoring.

    • two-tier approach: monitoring to support official processes and voluntary clean-ups.
    • choose from a European master list of commonly found marine litter items, such as cigarette butts, bottles, fishing materials...
    • data is submitted through the app to the EEA hosted Marine LitterWatch database.
    • data can be extracted, visualised through the EEA website, or embedded in other web pages or applications.

State of bathing waters Bathing water monitoring by country. Please note: for the scales 1:5.000.001 and less detailed, data are aggregated by country. In such case, stacked bars show percentage of bathing water quality for coastal and inland waters together. Number of bathing waters within certain category is seen in pop up window which can be turned on with a click on one of the countries. For the scale range 1:5 000.000 to 1:700,001, individual bathing water sites (points) are visible instead of classified stacked charts and are coloured according to the classification of bathing water quality. Symbol size depends on the map scale (in more detailed map scales symbols are bigger). For the scales 1:700,000 and more detailed, symbol of bather in a square appears instead of points. Symbol size depends on the map scale.

Changing face of Europe — explore the land cover This land cover map encompasses most of the countries of Europe and provides dynamic access to 1990, 2000 and 2006 Corine Land Cover datasets. Choose a layer for each of the two maps from the map legend pull-down menu (open and close from the triangular icons). Zoom into your area of interest and use the slider bar to see land cover changes. Data are available as 100 meter pixel raster images at small scales up to 1:800.000 and at higher scales as vectors. The smallest surfaces mapped (minimum mapping units) correspond to 25 hectares. Linear features less than 100 m in width are not considered. The scale of the output product was fixed at 1:100.000. Thus, the location precision of the CLC database is 100 m. (To close the legend or map description, click on the map).
