European Topic Centre on Urban, Land and Soil Systems (ETC-ULS)

ETC-ULS (the successor to the the ETC on Spatial Information Analysis - ETC-SIA; and ETC on Land Use and Spatial Information - ETC-LUSI; and ETC on Terrestrial Environment - ETC-TE) is an international consortium (8 organisations from 8 member states) assisting the European Environment Agency (EEA). The consortium is led by the Environment Agency Austria. ETC-ULS is part of the European Environmental Information and Observation Network (EIONET), and cooperates with other European institutions like the Joint Research Centre (JRC), Eurostat (Eurostat), the different DGs of the European Commission, and ESPON (European Spatial Planning Observation network). The activities of ETC-ULS have an important component on networking with various experts in the member countries on the harmonisation, quality and exchange of data and in building capacities. The tasks of ETC-ULS focus on support to harmonisation of monitoring of the environment in the EU member countries, in the compilation of resulting data in international databases, in the processing of information including the use of models to describe and analyse the present and future state of the environment and in the production of indicators to communicate information to various users.
