Information on emissions of pollutants released to air, water and land by industrial facilities throughout Europe has been updated today by the European Commission and the European Environment Agency (EEA). The new data, from 2011, covers releases and transfers from industrial installations reporting to the European Pollutant Release and Transfer Register (E-PRTR). The E-PRTR is a comprehensive online register which contains information from 32 countries: 27 EU Member States, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, Switzerland and Serbia. It shows emissions of 91 substances from more than 30 000 facilities categorised in 65 economic activities. The register also provides additional information, such as the amount and types of waste transferred from facilities to waste handlers both inside and outside each country.
The new dataset now contains information for 2011 and includes updates of previously published data covering years from 2007 to 2010. Voluntarily reported data from Serbia, from 2009 onwards, are also included in the register for the first time.
