Methodology

For each country, the average pesticide sales in the time period 2014 to 2015, was compared with the average pesticide sales in the time period 2011 to 2013:

Percent change = 100% × [Average (kg pesticide sales)_2014-2015 - Average (kg pesticide sales)_2011-2013 ] / Average (kg pesticide sales)_2011-2013

The averages were used, to even out weather variations.

The representation does not reflect if there have been major changes in sales of pesticides to other countries, or if pesticides which are bought to stock. Some of the major increases in pesticide use may have occurred in countries with pesticide use per area of land below the EU average.

Pesticide sales (aei_fm_salpest09) provided by Statistical Office of the European Union (Eurostat)
