To facilitate the designation of the Advisory Board, an independent Evaluation Committee was established to identify the most suitable candidates for the European Scientific Advisory Board on Climate Change. The Evaluation Committee will provide recommendations to the EEA Management Board on conclusion of the evaluation process.

Following the closure of the call for expressions of interest for members of the Advisory Board (1 November 2021), an evaluation committee was established by the EEA Management Board to identify, through an open, fair and transparent selection procedure, the most suitable candidates for the Advisory Board established under the European Climate Law.

The Evaluation Committee is composed of the seven following members:

  • Hans Bruyninckx, EEA Executive Director (Chair of the Evaluation Committee)
  • Laura Burke, Chair of the EEA Management Board
  • Per Mickwitz, Chair of the EEA Scientific Committee
  • Frank Geels, Member of the EEA Scientific Committee
  • Ana Iglesias, Member of the EEA Scientific Committee
  • Jaroslav Mysiak, Member of the EEA Scientific Committee
  • Markku Rummukainen, Member of the EEA Scientific Committee

The Chair of the EEA Management Board is responsible for ensuring the absence of any conflict of interest between the appointed members of the Evaluation Committee, and for the confidential treatment of all expressions of interest.

79 applications were received during the call for expressions of interest.

Following the screening and evaluation of these applications, the Evaluation Committee will identify and interview 25 to 35 potential suitable candidates for becoming members of the Advisory Board.

On conclusion of the evaluation process, the Evaluation Committee will provide recommendations to the EEA Management Board, with the aim of the designation of the members of the Advisory Board by the EEA Management Board. This designation is expected to take place during the meeting of the EEA Management Board planned for March 2022.
