Carbon intensity trends of industrial sectors defined as kilograms of Greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions per euro of gross value added
Chart (interactive)
For consistency reasons we used Eurostat data for both GVA [nama_10_a64] and GHG emissions [env_ac_ainah_r2] to compute carbon intensity estimates.
- Air emissions accounts by NACE Rev. 2 activity [env_ac_ainah_r2], EUROSTAT - Statistical Office of the European Union
- Gross value added and income by detailed industry (NACE Rev.2) [nama_10_a64], EUROSTAT - Statistical Office of the European Union
Units
Million euros (GVA, chain-linked volumes, 2020)
Percentage change (GVA)
Kilograms of GHG emissions per euro of GVA (carbon intensity)
Percentage change (carbon intensity)
Additional information
GVA is in chain linked volumes (2020), million euros.
At the time of the analysis Eurostat Gross Value Added (GVA) dataset had missing values for:
In textiles [NACE codes C13-C15] for Poland (2023);
In oil refining [C19] for Ireland, Lithuania, Malta, and Poland (2023);
In chemicals [C20] for Ireland and Malta (in 2010) and Sweden;
In the basic pharmaceuticals sector [C21] for Ireland, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, and Sweden;
In rubber and plastic [C22] for Luxembourg and Malta (2010).
