For consistency reasons, we used emission data from Joint Research Center (JRC) IDEES that only include CO2 emissions. While CO2 makes up the vast majority of Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions across these sectors, emissions of other GHGs are relevant in some production processes in chemicals and aluminium (N2O and F-gases, respectively). For the sectors examined, trends in CO2 emissions appear consistent with those in total greenhouse gas emissions. However, emissions reductions may be somewhat understated for parts of the chemical industry, where non-CO2 GHG have declined more rapidly over time.
