Risk components of most reported sectors by geographical area

This figure shows the four most frequently reported sectors and their climate risk components (Agriculture and food (29), Health (27), Biodiversity (including ecosystem-based approaches) (25), and Forestry (25)) across European geographical regions. Results indicate high overall risk levels in Southern Europe, widespread agricultural risks in Eastern Europe, increasing risks in Northern Europe, and rising future risks in Western Europe, particularly for biodiversity, despite currently lower vulnerability.

Countries are grouped into Northern, Eastern, Southern and Western Europe following the UN geoscheme for Europe.

Methodology

To allow for meaningful comparison across regions, a weighted average was used, as the number of reporting countries differs between regions and not all countries reported on each sector. For the calculation, values were assigned as follows: low = 1, medium = 2, high = 3. Entries marked not applicable were excluded from the calculation.
The resulting averages range between 1 and 3, with the following thresholds applied: 1.00-1.66 = low, 1.67-2.33 = medium, 2.34-3.00 = high.
