The figure shows trends in pathways of Non-Indigenous Species (NIS) introduction at sub-regional level. 

RELEASE IN NATURE: intentional introduction of live alien organisms (e.g. for fishing or hunting in the wild).
ESCAPE FROM CONFINEMENT: movement of (potentially) invasive alien species from confinement (e.g. aquaculture).
TRADE CONTAMINANT: unintentional movement of live organisms as (e.g. pests, through international trade).
SHIPPING: moving of live organisms attached to transporting (hull fouling) or in ballast water and sediments.
CORRIDOR: movement of alien organisms via transport infrastructures (e.g. canals).
