Distribution of ecological status or potential of rivers, lakes, coastal and transitional waters

The figure is based on information reported under the Water Framework Directive as part of countries’ third River Basin Management Plans, covering the period 2016-2021. To date 25 EU Member States and Norway have reported electronically. The figure combines ecological status and potential and percentages are in relation to number of classified water bodies.

The results are calculated as a percentage of the total number of classified water bodies. The results are based on the information Member States (excluding Hungary and Finland) and Norway have reported for the third River Basin Management Plans.
