Proportion of coastal and inland bathing waters with excellent quality in the EU-27, Albania and Switzerland, 2025
Chart (interactive)
The figure shows the share of bathing waters with excellent quality by water type and country in the 2025 bathing season.
Note: The assessment covers 22,289 bathing waters in Europe (EU-27, Albania and Switzerland) reported to the EEA for the 2025 bathing season, of which 14,861 were coastal and 7,428 were inland. In all countries, 90% or more of bathing waters were assessed, except in Slovakia (75%), Poland (80%) and Croatia (89%). A significant share of unassessed waters consisted of either newly designated bathing sites or sites lacking the complete set of samples required for assessment under the BWD.
For landlocked countries (Austria, Czechia, Hungary, Luxembourg, Slovakia and Switzerland), data on coastal waters are not relevant.
Data on inland waters were reported by all countries except Cyprus and Malta.
