See all EU institutions and bodiesAs the role of land in climate mitigation grows in importance, Earth Observation (EO) technologies are becoming indispensable for enabling accurate, timely, and large-scale monitoring of carbon fluxes.
The European Environment Agency (EEA) and the European Space Agency (ESA) are pleased to invite you to the second conference on earth observation for monitoring, reporting and verification of carbon removals.
This conference will focus on the contribution of EO to the implementation of the EU Land Use, Land Use Change and Forestry (LULUCF) Regulation, the Carbon Removal and Carbon Farming (CRCF) Regulation and related initiatives in carbon markets.
The event will bring together experts from across disciplines — scientific research, national GHG inventories, policy, and the private sector — to share insights, innovations, and experiences that support robust MRV (Monitoring, Reporting, and Verification) systems for carbon removals in the EU.
About the event
The conference will consist of two integrated parts:
7-8 October 2025: Earth observation for LULUCF monitoring, reporting and verification
- Focusing on EO-based support for implementing improved MRV under the revised LULUCF Regulation.
8-10 October 2025: 3rd forum on Earth observation for carbon markets
- Exploring EO’s role in enabling robust carbon accounting and certification for voluntary and compliance markets, with a specific focus on the EU CRCF.
