The estimates refer to people exposed to transport noise above the Environmental Noise Directive (END) thresholds (55dB Lden /50dB Lnight — measures of long-term average day-evening-night and night-time noise levels, respectively, expressed in A-weighted decibels); Negative health effects already occur at noise levels below those thresholds and therefore health impacts are likely underestimated.
