Negative correlation between the share reached by renewable generation in the mix and average electricity prices (first 16 weeks of 2026)
Chart (interactive)
The figure shows the inverse relation between the share of renewable electricity generation and average electricity prices.
Left graph, renewables correlate negatively with prices across national markets. Despite the overall trend of prices falling as the share of renewables grows, variation is visible between markets with an equal share of renewables, being explained by other factors such as low carbon generation sources in the mix, cross-border electricity trade, demand response and storage.
