Past and projected EU-15 greenhouse gas emissions compared with Kyoto target for 2008-2012

The EU15 target including Kyoto mechanisms and sinks is based on an estimated projected use of Kyoto mechanisms and activities under Article 3.3 and 3.4 (carbon sinks)

The Kyoto mechanisms account for 2.5 % of the EU target of 8 %, and activities under Articles 3.3 and 3.4 contribute an additional 0.9 %. For more information on Kyoto mechanisms and carbon sinks, see Chapters 7 and 9. This relies on the optimistic assumption that decreasing trends between 2005 and 2010 are maintained until 2012 and on the fact that the amount of emissions over-delivered by some Member States is not used for international emissions trading outside the EU15.
