The figure shows non-binding environmental objectives and binding environmental targets for the EU-28 as a whole in the period 2015-2050. Each objective/target is shown for the year of its implementation deadline.

Methodology

Environmental policy documents were analysed for non-binding objectives and binding targets and allocated to 10 themes: biodiversity and nature, freshwater, marine environment, land and soil, air pollution, waste and resources, chemicals pollution, environmental noise,and industrial polllution. If the deadline spans several years e.g. 2028-2030, the final date is used. The exact methodology is described in the ETC/WMGE working paper 'EU Environmental Targets and Objectives 2010-2050' which will be published on the website of the ETC/WMGE.
