Economic losses and insurance protection gap in the period 1980-2023

This figure displays the total economic losses (a), economic losses per square kilometre (b), economic losses per capita (c), and the insurance protection gap (d) in each country, aggregated for 1980-2023 and all weather- and climate-related event types. Total economic losses are in million Euros (m EUR), economic losses per square kilometre and per capita are in Euros (EUR), while the insurance protection gap is in percentage terms (%). Detailed information on the procedure used to derive economic losses and the insurance protection gap is reported in Box 1.
