4 March 2015 14:30 – 18:00 The Square (Arc Room), Rue Mont des Arts, 1000 Brussels The European environment - state and outlook 2015. Linking current knowledge and policies to future ambitions. Co-hosted by Karmenu Vella (European Commissioner for Environment, Maritime Affairs and Fisheries), Hans Bruyninckx (Executive Director, European Environment Agency) and Kaspars Gerhards (Minister of Environmental Protection and Regional Development, Latvia). The conference will start with a high-level panel on the state and outlook for the European environment and continue with an expert discussion on future prospects and action needed. Issues to be addressed include emerging trends, how best to ensure Europe is equipped to meet future environmental challenges, the benefits of action, and how the EU can support the transition to a more sustainable economy. Co-hosted by: Benedek Jávor (MEP, Group of the Greens/European Free Alliance Vice-chair, Committee on the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety), José Inácio Faria (MEP, Group of the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe Member, Committee on the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety) and Jo Leinen (MEP, Group of the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats Member, Committee on the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety). The workshop will present key findings from SOER 2015 with focus on the three priorities of the 7th Environment Action Programme: natural capital; the resource-efficient, low-carbon economy; and human health and well-being. |
