See all EU institutions and bodiesThe indicator shows the trend in total greenhouse gas emissions, excluding those from the land use, land use change and forestry (LULUCF) sector. For comparison, two index lines (1990 value = 100) are included: the first refers to country specific emissions, while the second expresses total EU emissions.
Romania’s contribution to greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions accounts for only 0.3% globally, and for less than 3% of the total emissions of the EU, registering a decrease of 3.3% for 2016–2020. With a reduction in total GHG emissions of 59.5% in 2023 compared with the base year of 1990 (see graph), Romania has already reached (and exceeded) the EU’s GHG reduction target of 55% by 2030.
