Customers of Vattenfall AB, aSwedish energy company, can now use models on the Web to calculatetheir consumption and to simulate their household's impact on theenvironment. Householders can then make an informed decision aboutthe level of environmental impact they cause.

Vattenfall offers its customers severaldifferent kinds of electricity. As well as electricity producedfrom mixed sources (the default option), customers can buyelectricity generated using wind and hydro power with differentlevels of environmental certification.

Many Swedish householders and companies areswitching to environmentally certified wind- and hydro-generatedelectricity, even though prices are slightly higher. Vattenfallreports a five-fold increase in sales of wind power and a 2.5 timesincrease in sales of hydro-generated electricity since June1998.
