To produce and handle all clothing, footwear and household textiles purchased by EU-27 households in 2020, an estimated 180 000 km² of land was used (400 m² per person), making this consumption domain the third highest impact category after food and housing. Only 8% of land use takes place within Europe.

Additional information

Coefficient data based on Exiobase v.3.8.1 data combined with Eurostat consumption statistics 2020 data. This includes all activities in industry and service sectors in the production and supply chain of the textile products until the purchase by households. It excludes the use of the textile products and the treatment at end of life.
