Methodology

Dams dataset compiles dams included in ECRINS spatial database complemanted by dams located in Western Balkans region (added by TC Vode). River dataset is composed by ECRINS "large" rivers (see additional information). Dams have been filtered by the following procedure: 1. Attributive linking with river (selecting dams by linking river dataset (river name) with dam dataset (rivers.RiverName*=dams.ic_river)). 2.Spatial linking (dams which are located within 500 m river buffer belt are selected).

Additional information

Dams on larger rivers in Europe. Large rivers were defined as rivers with catchments larger than 1000 km2 with direct outflow to the sea and rivers and their tributaries with catchments larger than 10 000km2 with no direct outflow to the sea (tributaries).
