The map presents the combined risk to health from road traffic noise and fine particulate matter (PM2.5)/ Nitrogen dioxide (NO2) levels. The white areas show an average combined risk across the cities included in this tool. In the blue areas, the combined risks are lower, while in the orange and red areas the combined risks are higher. Using this map, citizens can better understand the environmental quality of their neighborhoods.

Additional information

Road traffic noise: Expected risk of suffering high annoyance due to road traffic noise based on exposure-response curves from WHO (2018). The estimates are derived from noise contour maps submitted by countries to the EEA under the EU Environmental Noise Directive. Air pollution: Expected risk of suffering a premature death based on risk ratios from WHO (2013). The estimates are derived from annual average PM2.5/NO2 concentration maps, based on data reported to the EEA under the EU Air Quality Directives.
