Methodology

The average annual loss is the estimated annual drought-induced impact, expressed as a percentage of region-specific production. For present-day conditions, the average annual loss is based on the most recent five years data available. For the baseline, the average annual loss is calculated with data from 1981 to 2010. When at global scale a certain warming level is steadily achieved, the corresponding average annual loss is calculated using a 30-year time window.
