See all EU institutions and bodiesThe indicator shows the final consumption of energy by end users for all energy uses.
Final energy consumption in Slovenia has been slowly decreasing from its peak of 5.5 Mtoe in 2008 to 4.5 Mtoe in 2023. The main share of energy consumption belongs to transport, representing 41% in 2023. . [1] Consumption in the transport sector increased by more than 100 % between 2000 and 2023. In other sectors, energy consumption decreased: in building and construction due to improved energy efficiency, and in industry due to structural changes.
Slovenia has implemented a wide variety of energy efficiency measures, which have been very successful in the household sector but least successful in the transport sector, where car-centric behaviour is still considered the norm. However, change is slowly occurring there as well.
Energy efficiency is recognised as the most important contributing factor to achieving the energy and climate targets of the updated national energy and climate plan, and a high number of policies and measures are being implemented in this field in all sectors. .
