The generation of waste has been increasing continuously over the period under review, with the only exception being 2012, when a decrease was recorded. Since 2012, there has been no two-year period in which waste generation has decreased. Furthermore, in consideration of the numerous waste prevention initiatives, it is anticipated that the future growth in waste generation will be slower or that the trend will stabilise. These initiatives include various information and education campaigns targeting the general public or students. For example, a has been created, and a conference on waste prevention was held on two occasions. Economic growth is also likely to have an impact: in the case of a period of accelerated growth, it can be expected that waste generation will also increase at a faster rate. However, in the case of economic stagnation or decline, a decrease in waste generation can be expected.
