The expansion of organic farming can dampen further increases in the use of industrial fertilisers and pesticides. In 2022, 13.7 % of agricultural land in Slovakia was managed organically. The national action plan for the development of organic agricultural production for 2023–2027 aims to intensively develop organic agricultural production in Slovakia and aligns with related EU strategic documents. This is the second action plan in the field of organic agriculture in Slovakia, continuing the efforts of the action plan for the development of organic agriculture in Slovakia until 2010. Based on a comprehensive industry analysis and the Common Agricultural Policy Strategy, the goal is to manage 14 % of agricultural land organically by 2030, which exceeds the 2030 goal set in the strategy of environmental policy until 2030 (2019), namely 13.5 % of agricultural land under organic farming. Considering the EU’s goal of 25 % organically managed land by 2030 and Slovakia’s current share, it will be challenging to meet this target, despite the intention to utilise the organic agricultural production support system from the adopted strategic plan for 2023–2027.
