The indicator shows the gross final consumption of energy from renewable energy sources (RES), expressed as a share of the gross final consumption of energy from all sources.
Malta’s renewable , making progress towards the national target of 24.5% by 2030, . was one of the major contributors to renewable energy in this period, resulting in an increase in renewable electricity generation from 29.47 GWh in .
While Malta’s renewable energy potential is primarily limited by spatial, technical and resource constraints, with land availability and cost being the main barriers, policies continue to prioritise renewable technology uptake2. This includes pursuing the deployment of .
As set out in the 2024 NECP, Malta’s 2030 national target is being reached through contributions from renewables in the electricity, heating and . These include efforts to increase solar photovoltaic technology uptake to 350 MWp, an increased uptake of heating and cooling technologies to reach a contribution of 63% to Malta’s renewable energy share and the projected .
