See all EU institutions and bodiesThe indicator shows the share of material recovered and fed back into the economy – and thus saving extraction of primary raw materials – in overall material use.
The circular material use rate in Hungary fluctuated between 2010 and 2023, and is below the EU average.
The strategic goals of Hungary’s fifth national environmental protection programme include improving resource saving and efficiency, greening the economy and strengthening Hungary’s circular economy. The transition to a circular economy is supported by a number of measures. These include the ‘Green national champions project – Hungary’ , which supports the transition of businesses to a circular economy and the utilisation of secondary raw materials. The Circular Economy Platform was established in 2018 and the Circular Economy Technology Platform was launched in 2022; both work to promote knowledge-sharing and cooperation. The promotion of the circular economy is also encouraged by research and development grants, for example the HU-Rizon programme. The Hungarian government also adopted a green public procurement strategy in 2022.
