See all EU institutions and bodiesThe indicator shows the final consumption of energy by end users for all energy uses.
According to the 2025 Danish climate inventory and projection, final energy consumption currently falls below Denmark’s specific EU target of 8.4%. This is due to investments in energy efficiency improvements and the ongoing rapid growth in heat pumps and electric vehicles supported by Danish taxes and subsidy schemes. Furthermore, it is estimated that Denmark’s primary energy consumption will remain stable at just below 700 PJ. This can be attributed to a combination of growth and development, particularly in energy-intensive sectors such as data centres and Power-to-X plants in Denmark, balanced by significant energy efficiency improvements. The development of ower-to-X production in Denmark is expected to affect the reduction in final energy consumption. Denmark is expected to supply green hydrogen products to neighbouring countries, which, due to energy losses within the process, will be counted as energy consumption in Denmark. It is, however, unlikely that this will result in Denmark not meeting its specific EU target.
