See all EU institutions and bodiesThe indicator shows the gross final consumption of energy from renewable energy sources (RES), expressed as a share of the gross final consumption of energy from all sources.
The share of electricity from renewable energy sources (RESs) in Czechia has been growing slowly and, between 2014 and 2018, it mostly stagnated (see graph). However, Czechia is taking positive steps in implementing reforms to accelerate the deployment of RESs, especially regarding permit granting and new subsidy support programmes that are kick-starting the development of photovoltaic installations in particular. Czechia’s new National Energy and Climate Plan (NECP) aims to install capacities of 8 GW of grid-connected photovoltaic power plants and 1.2 GW of wind power plants by 2030. In 2024, the uptake of RESs will be supported by the launch of energy communities, which are based on the self-production of electricity and its sharing among small renewable energy producers (apartment buildings, housing estates, municipalities). As a result of recent developments and the introduction of additional measures, Czechia aims to increase its share of renewables in gross final energy consumption to 30% by 2030.
