The be@t project is a pioneering initiative in Portugal, involving 56 partners and 58 R&D initiatives aimed at revolutionizing the textile and clothing industry through sustainability and circular economy principles. Organized around four key pillars—biomaterials, circularity, sustainability, and society—the project drives innovation in biobased materials, textile recycling and circularity, industrial symbiosis, new metrics and validation tools and the integration of society in the innovation ecosystem. It encompasses nine specific initiatives, including alternative biomaterials, textile circularity, eco-design, responsible consumption, and transparent supply chains.
Supported by the EU’s Recovery and Resilience Plan, be@t aims to reduce the environmental impact while enhancing the competitiveness of the Portuguese textile industry. This project plays a crucial role in advancing national bioeconomy goals and aligns with broader EU sustainability targets, positioning Portugal as a leader in sustainable and eco-friendly textile production. The project is expected to significantly bolster sustainable practices within the industry, driving innovation and fostering environmental responsibility across the sector.
