eCIRCULAR - Circular Economy Classification System

eCIRCULAR - is a classification system, developed by ADENE – Agency for Energy (ADENE), that allows the evaluation of performance and promotes the improvement of the management practices of organizations towards the circular economy. This system is applied to organizations to streamline actions and obtain practical and evolutionary results in terms of the circular economy.  

eCIRCULAR uses a comprehensive model – it comprises the assessment, through an audit, of how materials, energy and water are managed, as well as the organisation's strategic options to promote circularity. This assessment is performed by eCIRCULAR auditors to whom is delivered a training program. 

At the end of the audit process a certificate eCIRCULAR is issued. This document includes the classification obtained – from F to A+ (the best), the best circularity practices already implemented by the audited organization and a set of measures to improve performance (action plan). The certificate must be updated periodically, thus inducing a continuous improvement cycle that strengthens the instrumental role of the system. 

The eCIRCULAR is applicable to multiple sectors of the economy.  

Presently, from the 90 professionals trained on the methodology, 37 were recognized as eCIRCULAR auditors, 43 organizations were classified and around 300 measures to improve circularity were proposed to those entities.
