Environmental Scenarios Analysts - Contract Agent (Function Group IV)


The European Environment Agency is seeking to recruit scenario analysts to begin working from 2005-2006. The selected candidates will be employed for a limited time period not exceeding four years.
Successful candidates are professional, creative and motivated. They have very good writing skills and can demonstrate excellence in their chosen field.
The job description and expertise profile described below have been formulated to attract candidates with a wide range of experience in the field of scenarios and future studies.

Job description:

To support implementation of the EEA’s activities on scenarios and future studies focusing on: development and application of methods for environmental scenario analysis (qualitative, quantitative and participatory); and development of in-dept scenario analysis in selected environmental themes or sectoral issues.

Functions and duties:

  • Conceptualize and develop studies, projects, and analysis in the field of environmental scenarios.
  • Provide support to the development of new methodologies and approaches to environmental scenarios.
  • Produce assessments and advice on the use of the above by the EEA for the various reports, projects, and activities.
  • Contribute to the implementation of EEA strategic approach to scenarios and futures studies.

Eligibility

  • Education certificates and diplomas:
    • A university degree relevant to the field concerned (e.g. natural/social sciences) ideally with a substantial environment focus;
  • Range of professional experience and skills:
    • A minimum of five years of related professional experience, including three years of experience in the development and analysis of environment related scenarios;
    • A sound knowledge of methods and approaches to scenarios development and future studies as well as the associated tools (e.g. quantitative, qualitative);
    • Good networking, interpersonal and communication skills;
    • A good knowledge of European policies and related environmental policies;
    • Proven experience in project management and working with a broad team of experts.

GENERAL CONDITIONS:

  • Citizenship of one of the Member Countries of the EEA (Member States of the European Union plus Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, Bulgaria, Romania and Turkey);
  • Enjoy full rights as a citizen;
  • Have fulfilled any obligations imposed by law concerning military service;
  • Meet the educational requirements as described under "Eligibility: Education certificates and diplomas";
  • Meet the character requirements for the duties involved;
  • Have a thorough knowledge of one of the languages of the EEA Member Countries and a satisfactory knowledge of a second of these languages. Good knowledge of English would be an asset.

Selection:

The procedure comprises a pre-selection of the best qualified candidates based on the eligibility criteria in relation to the post to be filled. Pre-selected candidates will be called for an interview. The interview will be held for the most part in English.

Recruitment:

The selected candidates shall before recruitment undergo a compulsory medical examination to establish that they meet the standard of physical fitness necessary to perform the duties involved.
