Changing face of Europe — explore the land cover This land cover map encompasses most of the countries of Europe and provides dynamic access to 1990, 2000 and 2006 Corine Land Cover datasets. Choose a layer for each of the two maps from the map legend pull-down menu (open and close from the triangular icons). Zoom into your area of interest and use the slider bar to see land cover changes. Data are available as 100 meter pixel raster images at small scales up to 1:800.000 and at higher scales as vectors. The smallest surfaces mapped (minimum mapping units) correspond to 25 hectares. Linear features less than 100 m in width are not considered. The scale of the output product was fixed at 1:100.000. Thus, the location precision of the CLC database is 100 m. (To close the legend or map description, click on the map).

Figure Estimated High Nature (HNV) presence in Europe How to read the map: Green areas show likelihood to contain primarily HNV land, on the basis of a stratified selection of CORINE land cover clases per country and environmental zone, and national biodiversity data when available. The values in the map are a proxy for the proportion of HNV in each 1 km2 cell, 2012 update.
Figure Estimated soil erosion by water in Europe Calculated by the Revised Universal Soil Loss Equation (RUSLE). While the overall patterns of erosion are generally sound, the validation of erosion data can be challenging. The data presented are currently being validated through comparisons with national datasets and expert judgement. In this sense, zooming in on a specific locality can give the impression of a situation that differs from reality. In addition, the model used in this exercise does not consider localised intense precipitation.
