Countries arranged by the percentage of compliance with mandatory value or at least sufficient quality. No inland bathing waters are reported from three Member States (Cyprus, Malta and Romania). The quality classes under the New Bathing Water Directive (2006/7/EC) are jointed with compliance categories under the Bathing Water Directive (76/160/EEC).

Additional information

For 10 European countries (Austria, Bulgaria, France, Ireland, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland, Slovenia, Switzerland and the United Kingdom) the assessment is done under the transition period rules. For 16 European countries (Belgium, the Czech Republic, Croatia, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Portugal, Slovakia, Spain and Sweden) the assessment is done under the New Bathing Water Directive.
