The INSPIRE Conference 2012 will take place from Saturday 23rd – Wednesday 27th June 2012 in Istanbul, Turkey. The theme of this year's edition is "Sharing environmental information, sharing innovation". The aim of this year's INSPIRE Conference is therefore to look at how innovations in these three areas have further shaped the landscape of sharing environmental information. The technical program will feature keynote addresses, workshops, panels in addition to presentations and posters. The call for contributions reflects the three pillars: Governance, Content and Technologies. In particular, as 2012 is the European Year for Water, we are interested in receiving submissions relating to Water (Water Framework Directive, Plan Bleu, EEA Water Watch, Blue Carbon…)

What is on this Floods Directive map? River Basin Districts (RBDs) are the main units for the management of river basins and have been delineated by Member States under Article 3 of the Water Framework Directive (WFD). For the Floods Directive, Member States were given the choice to use either the WFD River Basin Districts, or to designate other Units of Management (UoM) for specific river basins or stretches of coastal areas under article 3 of that Directive. For Ireland and Italy such smaller UoM were designated. For the other EU Member States the same RBD as for the WFD therefore applies. The geographic area of some RBDs span more than one country (such as the Danube) and these are known as International RBDs. These RBDs are shown in yellow/orange. Others are contained completely within a country and are known as National RBDs, and are shown in light purple/light blue.

This map shows the location of Streamflow Gauging Stations in Europe, overlaid on the WFD RBDs. The map enables the user to view, select and display information on the location and characteristics of streamflow gauging stations across Europe. The stations depicted on the map represent points where discharge (streamflow) is measured (cubic metres per second) on a daily time step, allowing a comparison of the density and coverage of streamflow monitoring networks across Europe.
Every three years since 1997, the World Water Forum mobilises creativity, innovation, competence and know-how in favour of water. One week of discussions, hot debates, solutions and best practice sharing in order to achieve concrete solutions and commitments for the cause of water. The Forum is open to all who want to contribute and participate in the resolution of global water challenges!
On Tuesday 1st November from 14.00 to 17.30 pm, in the framework of the official programme of the International Water Week in Amsterdam (IWW), STREAM Project is organising the policy seminar “State of the Art in Urban Water Management”. The seminar aims to show the current state of the European policy and research efforts on urban water management, as well as the best practices and challenges for practical implementation of sustainable water management in cities. The event brings politicians and researchers together to make sure that policies are based on the latest research, research is policy driven, and together they focus on the practical implementation of solutions. For all participation details visit http://www.stream-project.eu/policy-seminars/urban-water The seminar will also be recorded and available on line at www.stream-project.eu

Government ministers and delegates from 53 countries agreed to extend the European network for sharing environmental information across the pan-European region. The commitment was made at the seventh Ministerial Environment for Europe summit in Astana, Kazakhstan, which concluded today.
By Jacqueline McGlade, Executive Director, European Environment Agency (EEA) at the Environment for Europe Ministerial Conference, Astana, Kazakhstan, on 21 September 2011.
Europe's Environment: An Assessment of Assessments (EE-AoA) takes stock of the existing European environmental assessment landscape, particularly in the fields of water and related ecosystems and the green economy, and asks whether these are appropriate to support the policy process given the complex interconnected nature of the environmental challenges faced today.
Ministers will meet in Astana, Kazakhstan, today to discuss water issues and greening the economy at the seventh 'Environment for Europe' Ministerial Conference, running from 21 - 23 September 2011. To support the Conference, the European Environment Agency (EEA) is launching an innovative Assessment of Assessments report, which recommends ways that environmental information and policy making can be more closely aligned.
In support of the 2011 'Environment for Europe' Ministerial Conference in Astana, EEA has prepared 'Europe's environment — An Assessment of Assessments' (EE-AoA). This report provides a comprehensive overview of available sources of environmental information across the region which directly relate to the themes in focus at the Conference, water and related ecosystems, and green economy.
