The annual report points out how the scope and format of "The European Environment - State and Outlook 2005" was changed considerably along the way, and how the Agency managed to respond to these changes in a flexible way and deliver the close to 600 pages report on time in late November.
Last year also showed that the EEA plays an important role in evaluation of
the effectiveness of EU environmental policy. A pilot study on policy
effectiveness was launched in October last year, coinciding with the visit of
environment commissioner Stavros Dimas to the Agency.
The extent of the sea ice in the Arctic reached a new record low in September 2012. Climate change is melting the sea ice in the region at a rate much faster than estimated by earlier projections. ...
