From the Mediterranean Coast to the Artic Circle, Europe is blessed with a rich heritage of biodiversity, both in terms of wild and domestic species of plants and animals. But industrialisation, intensification of agriculture and urbanisation, leading to loss of habitats, are putting Europe's biodiversity under pressure and many species are declining in number and under threat of extinction.

This video news release shows the crucial importance of maintaining and safe guarding Europe’s biodiversity now and for generations to come. Across Europe measures to protect and conserve biodiversity are being taken at national, EU and international levels. The EEA plays a vital role in monitoring the state and trends of biodiversity, and in policy design and implementation to halt the loss of biodiversity in line with the global target of 2010.
