The data only includes the area under agri-environment contracts signed in 2000, 2001 and 2002 under Regulation (EC) 1257/1999 (equivalent to a total of 22.7 million hectares)

Additional information
The schemes under the predecessor Regulation (EC) 2078/1992 (equivalent to a total of 11.3 million hectares) are not included, as only the total area and the area under organic farming is available. In Spain, the 'landscape and nature' category seems to include soil protection schemes and those aiming at the reduction of use of water for irrigation.
