Time series of sea ice extent in the Arctic

Based on input data from the EUMETSAT OSI SAF reanalysis project, in which a consistent time series of daily, gridded data for sea ice concentration is made from the passive microwave sensors SMMR and SSM/I data, monthly aggregated sea ice products are generated by CryoClim (carried out by the Norwegian Meteorological Institute). The graph shows the sea ice extent (sea ice concentration with a 15% threshold) time series from 1979 until 2010 for the months March (sea ice maximum) and September (sea ice minimum). Linear trends are estimated.
